Farmers' Markets

Proyecto regional

Descripción

SDG #15 Life on Land

The rural community spread in Tuscia promotes and organizes farmers' markets, i.e. small-scale agriculture and small-scale crafts of proximity. The markets are self-managed by the producers who participate, aiming to ensure the quality of agriculture and build relationships of trust between producers and consumers through the practice of participatory guarantee.
The markets, as well as being a service for the area, where residents can come into direct contact with producers, eliminating the cost of intermediaries, are also a cultural resource. In addition to providing information on local news, natural agriculture and non-extractive economic practices, the market space organizes moments of discussion on issues of social interest. They have proved to be a fundamental and valuable moment of aggregation during the pandemic, contrasting the drift of economic and social inequalities on the weakest groups.
Currently, two markets a month are organized in the town of Porano, one market a month in the town of Farnese while negotiations are underway with the town of Bolsena to establish an additional monthly market there.
The diffused rural community also contributes to the Trame di Comunità project by organizing a monthly farmers' market in the town of Orvieto in collaboration with other organizations in the area.
